Patrick Schulkers, Founder of Strokewise

Before starting Strokewise, I oversaw recruiting and served as the freshman coach, identifying and enrolling talent from across the world to the University of California, Berkeley.

The highlights on the water for my time at Berkeley were winning four Pac-12 titles, winning the Third Varsity Eight at the 2014 Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship, and winning the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta in the Visitors’ Challenge Cup.

Off the water, I was lucky to travel the world recruiting the best athletes in the world to train in California and row for Mike Teti. The recruiting responsibilities for a college coach are endless with compliance, travel logistics, athlete relationship building and working through the admission process.

Prior to my arrival in Berkeley, I spent three years as the head coach of the Novice Boy's team for the Marin Rowing Association. My last season at Marin, culminated in a Youth National Championship for the Boy's Lightweight Eight in 2011.

I have also found success coaching on the international stage, coaching four crews at the Henley Royal Regatta, as well as serving as head coach of the US National Team Under-23 Men’s Pair and an assistant for the US National Team Under-23 Women’s Quad along with coaching at several Royal Canadian Henley Regattas.

Along the coaching path I have been lucky to coach middle school and high school athletes in running and rowing. The joy of sport is seen everyday when middle school athletes go home feeling better than when they arrived.

With an Industrial Systems Engineering degree from The Ohio State University, I also understand the importance of academics and education. During this time in Columbus, I fell in love with the sport of rowing, serving as an oarsman and president of the Ohio State Crew Club.
